Looking for a new Sunday retreat to escape the big smoke? Check out the SMOKEHOUSE located in beautiful Canonbury. My favourite pub with one hell of a roast. An absolute MUST.

SUNDAY - one of my favourite days.

The one day that should be purely dedicated to relaxing, indulging in lots of yummy food and partaking in a few pints/Bloody Marys/red wine, what ever floats your Sunday boat.

My routine on a Sunday is -

Lazy breakfast.
Taking my dog Columbus for a walk with my hubby Andy.
Hit the Smokehouse for a big fat roast and a few pints.
Home.
Movie.
Bed.
Perfect.

S M O K E H O U S E info -

Chef Neil Rankin has become one of the kings of barbecue. You may remember his name from the Pitt Cue Co then a well-received stint at John Salt on Upper Street.

Now he works his magic at Smokehouse, run by the small chain behind the excellent Princess of Shoreditch, Lady Ottoline and Pig & Butcher.

Why is the Smokehouse my favourite pub?

The food is some of the best I have experienced in London.
The menu is creative, unique and never disappoints.
It's located in the Canonbury bubble (you feel like you're in the countryside)
All the staff are super friendly and always welcome you with a smile...and they all love our dog Columbus!

The atmosphere is buzzing, it's always packed and everyone chats to each other which creates a really homely vibe.

You can sit at the bar for hours, sampling different dishes, and more importantly different beers!

They have two fire places which keeps it lurverly and warm on those cold winter days.

The animal heads on the walls give it a rural country feel.

IT'S JUST A BLOODY GOOD PUB!

We always eat in the bar area as we have Columbus with us....

This is the restaurant area which has an open kitchen at the back.

Pint time!

My new favourite is an IPA - Beavertown Gamma Ray UK.

It's beautiful, bursting with chocolaty flavours.....it's dangerously drinkable! I usually sink back 4 or 5 of these beauts.

Cheers Columbus!

I always order the same starter and roast when I go, it's just too good to change. I look forward to it every Sunday!

Brisket roll with gochujang sauce.

The beef is so tender it just pulls apart beautifully.

It is one of the tastiest dishes I have ever had.

The sauce is slightly spicy and it goes perfectly with the beef - a match made in foodie heaven.

The ROAST!!

Now, I used to always go for a beef roast.....until I tried the smoked poussin.......Ahhhhhh.

The smoky flavour to the succulent chicken is just dreamy and you get plenty of meat!

Columbus loves the smell.....

We had to give him some...

The Yorkshire puddings are perfectly cooked, hard on the outside, squidgy on the inside.

The roast potatoes are light and fluffy and the honey glazed carrots and parsnips are DE LISH!

DEMOLISHED!

The ONLY negative comment I have about the roast is that it would have been nice to have more gravy, I love gravy and can't get enough! So make sure you ask for extra when you go. But apart from that it is PERFECT!! Something to get out of bed for on a lazy Sunday!

This is where the magic happens....

Until next Sunday.....

Tips for Smokehouse -

Always book, it gets absolutely packed on the weekends.
If you're taking your dog, request a table in the bar area as they are not allowed in the restaurant.
It's fairly pricey, as all great London gastro pubs are, but it's totally worth it!!!
Nearest underground tube is Highbury & Islington.
Nearest overground is Essex Road and Canonbury.
If it's a sunny day they have a great beer garden!

The damage.
