Looking for a new lunch spot? Check out the tapas delights at CARAVAN.

Located on trendy and vibrant Exmouth Market is CARAVAN.

Exmouth Market is a pedestrian street hidden between Angel and Farringdon.
The vibe is awesome. Not only is it lined with fabulous restaurants serving all types of cuisine but during the week it hosts a daily food market which kicks off at midday.
There are lots of stalls selling delicious street food! It gets super busy around lunch time and is hugely popular with all the local workers.
In the evening the street is lined with pretty fairy lights and all the bars and pubs are packed.
In the summer most of the restaurants have alfresco dining and it's the perfect place to relax and get that 'holiday feel' we all love.

I usually head to Caravan for breakfast as they serve a wicked brunch menu and the coffee is dreeeeeeamy. I had seen they serve a tapas-style lunch menu and, as I'm a big fan of the restaurant, I thought I'd check it out!
The food is served from three different menus -
Breakfast (week days)
Brunch (weekends)
And all day lunch and dinner menu.

Another bonus about Caravan is I can take Columbus with me!

It was a little too chilly to sit outside but they said it was fine to bring him into the bar area.

The restaurant was nice and busy giving it a buzzy atmosphere and new customers were constantly
arriving - popular joint!

They do a lunch menu consisting of small plates and large plates. We were advised that it's best to order two or three small dishes each.

First thing's first - some cocktails ;)

I went for a Piscine which is berries, creme de cassis and prosecco over ice.
Fruity and refreshing.

My lunch date ordered an aperol spritz which is aperol, prosecco and soda over ice. This is my usual summer drink - they are terribly addictive.

We decided to order three small plates, one large plate and a side dish.
One that jumped out at me was the green pepper gazpacho with toasted almonds.

Next up, something slightly cheeky - chicken wings with bacon jam and blue cheese.
Yuuuuuummmm!

No Spanish lunch is complete without a potato and onion tortilla!

This a large plate -
Courgette fritters, sumac butternut, piquillo peppers and goats cheese. It looked colourful and flavoursome (could have been a tad bigger as it was a large plate @ £14.50).

Lastly our side -  purple and white sprouting broccoli with toasted almonds.

Time to dig in!

The gazpacheo was beautiful! The flavours were really unique and the almonds gave it a lovely sweet finish.

Columbus was giving me the 'can I try some' look....

I gave him a little taster....

The chicken wings were, of course, totally YUM! You can't go wrong with chicken and blue cheese. The only annoying thing is - there is never enough meat...but I am a little piggy.

The tortilla was super tasty and really filling! It was perfectly cooked and a great accompaniment to our lunch.

The courgette fritters, sumac butternut, peppers and goats cheese plate was scrumptious! The textures were gorgeous with very earthy flavours which all worked wonderfully together. It was a great dish and it was worth the money but (tiny niggle) it would have been nice to just have a little bit more.

We were both really enjoying our Spanish style lunch :)

We were pretty full but hey, there is always room for something sweet!
The dessert menu was fabulous.
We went for the peanut butter parfait with chocolate mousse drizzled with caramel.
BOOM.
It looked incredibly inviting.

As I love love LOVE the coffee at Caravan we added a cappuccino and latte.
A table of TREATS.

It was SOOOO so so delicious!!!!! Soft and gooey. As you may have guessed I have a seriously sweet tooth and I am a huge dessert fan. This has to go in my top ten favourites!

It was devoured by both of us very quickly.

The damage...

We were in there for a few hours and, in true Spanish style, we took our time. The atmosphere is really cool with a lovely view of the street food market outside - perfect for some cheeky 'people watching'.

The food was interesting, unique and of high quality.

Yes the bill was high but not only are you paying for wonderful food, you are also paying for the fantastic surroundings too. The service, however, was very relaxed and a little slow. This is something they should improve upon.

BIG APPETITE AT BAD EGG.

What came first - the chicken or the egg?

Well who cares, they are both equally delicious!

Located in the heart of the bustling city is BAD EGG - a funky, Chicago-inspired, all-day diner that has put a new, exciting spin on our favourite breakfast companion.
Following the 'Brinner' trend that has taken London by storm, chef Neil Rankin (Pitt Cue, John Salt, Smokehouse and many others) has once again created a foodie drool fest.

I was egg-cited (sorry couldn't help it) to check it out....

Unfortunately you can't book for lunch from Mon- Fri so we (me and my partner in foodie crime) had to wait.
I actually like having to wait for a table, it builds up the excitement AND you can have a cheeky drink before you sit down.

We were told by the smiley hostess that it would be a 5/10 min wait so she showed us to the bar.
I ordered my 'usual' Prosseco and Andy went for a glass of carrot, apple and ginger juice which was yummy.

After a short wait we were shown to our table.
I had a great view ;)

Similar to Smokehouse there was an open kitchen - nice to see where the magic is taking place.

THE MENU.

Decisions, decisions....

We wanted to try it all and ordered waaaaaaaay too much but, like I said, I was with my partner in foodie crime and we were STARVING.
The menu focuses around Burgers, Ribs, Baked Eggs, Hashes and Taco’s.
There are 4 different kinds of burgers.....we went for the Bad Egg Burger, be rude not to.
We also ordered -
Beef Shin & Korean Pork Tacos
Buffalo Belly Ribs
Ham & Eggs (keeping it traditional)
with sides -
Korean Slaw
 Fennel & Apple Vinegar Slaw
BOOM!

Wrap your lips around this ....

Phoarrrrrwwwww. What a burger.
All Bad Egg's burgers are made from 100% rare breed beef from Taste Tradition Farm in North Yorkshire.
I loved it when the gooey egg yolk melted down the side of the bun....ahhhhh true food porn. It was covered in a home made cheese fondue using Raclette and Red Leicester.
For some, this burger could be slightly sickly but I guess it all depends on what hits your spot.
I really enjoyed myself :)

The Pork Tacos were packed full of juicy flavour - incredibly filling as you get 3 of these bad boys.

The beef ones were my absolute favourite! Next time I go I will be ordering these for sure, I loved them.

We were not short of meat on this table, the Buffalo Rib was succulent and very messy, finger lickin gooooooooood.

The Smoked Ham Hock was amazing! It pulled apart beautifully and the scrambled eggs were really fluffy and creamy. I could have this for breakfast, lunch or dinner it was lovely, filling, but luuuuuurvely.

We were totally stuffed.
Classic case of - eyes bigger than your belly.
We did pretty well though!

The damage
(remember we were pigs and over ordered)

The service was brilliant, all the staff there are so friendly and full of character which is so important in a restaurant like this. People go to have fun, fun menu, fun atmosphere and fun experience. The food is of high quality and worth every penny.

Tips for BAD EGG -

Opens at 8am.
You can't book Mon - Fri lunch time so prepare to wait.
You CAN book all mornings & evenings Mon - Sat and all day Sat.
It's not open on Sundays.....yet ;)
Don't order too much as it's all very filling, you can always add dishes after, if you still have room.
They do vegetarian and gluten free options.
You can order food to take away (perfect hangover cure)
They have a wicked cocktail menu so it would be a great place to celebrate a Birthday.

Get yourself down there and have an eggscelent time!
